Live Oak | Modal | Diffusion and Osmosis | DNA Replication | Vocabulary Words
Hello, I'm Kristen Alexis Dill.
I'm fifteen years old, and a Sophmore.
I enjoy photography and car rides to different places.
I'll talk to anyone, i'm a very nice person.

Live Oak
Scientific Name: Quercus Virginiana
Organsim that affects tree: Gypsy Moth
Provides habitat or food for: Squirrels eat the acorns. It's also a larval plant for the white hairstreak butterfly.
Relation to other Oak trees: They all have the same insects and diseases that affect the trees. They all have acorns, but some may not get them till later than most Oak trees.
Commercial use of tree: Landscaping.
Twig Characteristics: The twig is mainly smooth. The leaf margins are sometimes spiny rather than smooth. They margins are wide spreading with horizontal and arching branches.
Tree is found: Goose Island State Park in Rockport, Texas.
Modal
1. Where it is grown in the world?
Modal is grown in Indiana.
2.Items made from the fiber (discuss examples from a wide sampling of places around the world).
Modal the fiber is made from many items. Modal is used alone or with other fibers in household linens such as towels, bathrobes, and bedsheets, spandex and the fabric has increased in popularity in the early twenty-first-century.
3.Interesting information about the grain and how it is used.
Modal has became a big situation in Indiana. Indiana textile expected to get over 4,000 tons in the year of 2005.
Diffusion and Osmosis
When the potatoe was placed in regular water over night the only thing that happened was the change of color. The potatoe lost weight after it was in water over night, it went from 6.4 oz to .28 oz.
When the potatoe was placed in Salt Water over night, the salt in the water obsorbed the water out of the potatoe and it shrank. The weight of the potatoe changed. After it was in water over night, the weight decreased. It went from 5.3 oz to 0.17 oz.
After the Dialysis Tubing was filled with corn starch, we placed it into Iodine. After 24 hours, the Iodine obsorbed into the corn starch and made it a purple/black color. Also, even though this happened the weight still stayed the same (.87 oz.)
The potatoe with the water showed osmosis, and the salt water potatoe showed diffusion.
Data Table
DNA Replication
1. The DNA replication begins by unwinding DNA.
2. They hydrogen bonds begin to break.
3. Now, Strand I is going to get a new Strand II.
4.Strand II is going now going to get a new Strand I.
5. Hydrogen bonds reform, and then DNA begins to wind back up.
Vocabulary Words
Telomeres – Long stretches at the ends of the chromosome
Okazaki fragments- the newly-synthesize DNA (red) begins as this.
DNA ligase- stitches the Okazaki fragments together
Telomerase- an enzyme that adds telomere repeat sequences to the 3’ end of DNA strands. By = lengthening this strand, DNA polymerase is able to complete the synthesis of the “incomplete ends” of the opposite strand.
Cancer- most arise from somatic cells. But one of the crucial features that distinguishes a center cell from a normal somatic cell is its ability to divide indefinitely. Most 85-95% cancer cells have regained the ability to synthesize high levels of telomerase throughout the cell cycle, and thus are able to prevent further shortening of their telomeres.
Transplanted cells – a cell that moves to a different part of your body.
Cloning- it is the process of a clone.
Aging- is the progressive lose of physiological functions that increases the probability of death.
